Riverworks' 2020 Annual Report
In 2020, our focus on people, place, and prosperity helped activate residents, strengthen home-ownership, stabilize families, help small businesses innovate, provide essential services, and promote health and safety. We are proud to present to you our 2020 Annual Report, which spotlights the impact we had last year on Harambee, Riverwest, and the surrounding communities. If you are not already on our e-mailing list, please consider joining so that you can stay up to date on all of our resources and upcoming events!
Riverworks helps residents take action to improve their community. In 2020, Riverworks led 6 outdoor cleanups with more than 50 residents engaged. We worked with neighbors on a "Love Your Block" project, hosted a virtual health and wellness series, helped to facilitate the Riverwest Farmer's Market, and worked with residents, Safe & Sound, and the Milwaukee Police Department on the Keefe Avenue Safety Task Force.
Riverworks supports quality housing, greenspace, and amenities. Riverworks is the lead agency driving the transformation of the Beerline Trail. In 2020, Riverworks hosted Music on the Beerline in collaboration with DJ Ray Nitty; more than 15,000 viewers enjoyed a mix of dance, spoken word, and live music. We connected homeowners to contractors, grants, loans, legal advice, and other services, and surveyed 264 homes in Harambee.
Riverworks spurs economic opportunities for the community and helps residents build wealth. In 2020, the Financial Clinic provided coaching services and income support to 232 families, and helped file over 800 tax and stimulus returns! Meanwhile, the Business Development team served 200 small businesses through one-on-one coaching, workshops, and by providing office and event space.
