Business Spotlight - May 2021

As we greet the warm weather here in Milwaukee, we want to take a moment to highlight some fantastic organizations and businesses that promote health and wellbeing in our neighborhoods. Whether it is acupuncture, meditation, or gym options that you are looking for, Harambee, Riverwest, and the Riverworks BID #25 have many places to turn to take care of your body and mind!

Be sure to check out our flower and plant sale this Saturday, as well as a virtual webinar about market research and online promotions on Thursday!

Pura Vida BJJ + MMA

Pura Vida, located at 4125 N Richards Street in the Riverworks BID, is a gym with a welcoming environment where students of any age and experience are always able to come in and train. At Pura Vida they have two main focuses: their grappling program which is a combination of Brazilian Jiujitsu and Fold-Style Wrestling, and their kid’s program which features a dynamic combination of grappling and striking, as well as spending time with the children to work on their leadership skills.

Pink House Studio

The Pink House Studio, located at 601 E Wright Street in Riverwest, is a social healing arts center. They provide space for yoga, meditation, Pilates, various dance classes, song and healing circles and other community-minded events. The sister duo, Claire and Sarah, are founders of the organization and they both teach as well. Their mission is to contribute to healing our world by offering an affordable space for caring for our bodies and spirits and creating community.

Drop Out Fight Club

One of the newest workout spaces in the Riverworks BID, Drop Out Fight Club located at 830 E Keefe Avenue, is a one-of-a-kind boxing studio. At Drop Out, they value fitness, friendship and community - “that’s what their fighting for”. The studio focuses on group classes, but also offers one-on-one personal training and features an area for strength training and conditioning. The space features a boxing ring, heavy and upper-cut bags and a lounge, and is intended to be used to collaborate with artists and musicians.

Shalem Healing

Shalem Healing, a non-profit integrative holistic medical clinic, recently moved from Locust Street in Riverwest to Dr. MLK Jr Drive in Harambee. Dr. Fox and his team use a combination of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nurse Science, Nutritional Science and Western Medicine to best service their clients. They accept several types of insurance and never refuse treatment because of inability to pay. They were very active in the fight against COVID, providing testing and other services.

Planet Fitness

Located at 709 E Capitol Drive in the Riverworks BID, Planet Fitness strives to create a workout environment where everyone feels accepted and respected. They always take care to make sure the club is clean and welcoming, the staff is friendly, and their certified trainers are ready to help. Whether you are a first-time gym user, or a fitness veteran, you'll always have a home in their Judgement Free Zone.
