2010 Riverworks Brokers Open

The first Riverworks Center Brokers Open event was held on the morning of Thursday, September 30 at the Richards Street Armory, a historical building that has served as the headquarters for the Milwaukee National Guard since 1930. The theme of the event was “The BID Advantage” which highlighted programs and services the Riverworks BIDs offer and other benefits of working and locating in BIDs.  The event featured the Department of City Development Commissioner Rocky Marcoux as the Keynote Speaker in addition to Sandra Golden from CB Richard Ellis.

Overall the event was a success.  56 people attended, including brokers, lenders, developers, and individuals from the construction industry. We were connected to many brokers and businesses for the first time, and we also made first-time connections with individuals and membership groups that were unable to attend.  We’re confident that the relationships we’re building through events like our Brokers Open will help contribute to the growth and prosperity of the Riverworks Center area.

A special thanks goes out to the event sponsors and those that provided donations for door prizes.  The event would not have been possible without their generous support:

Presenting Sponsor - US Bank
Event Sponsor - LAD Lake
Program Sponsors: Adaptive Land & Building, LLC, Ascend Design, Bliffert Lumber & Fuel Company, CTC Supplies, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern WI, North Shore Bank, Riverworks Development Corporation, The Boerke Company
Donations: Big MPG-Design/Marketing, Clear Channel Outdoor, Flux Design, Outpost Natural Foods

RDC's Third Annual Golf Outing

RDC sends a hearty shout-out to the supportive group of golfers that participated in the Riverworks 3rd Annual golf outing.  The event took place at the Mequon Country Club for the first time and was an overall success.  Ken Bieck’s foursome won first place in the scramble for the second consecutive year, with Mike Olson’s team coming in a close second.  Several changes marked this year’s event:

  • Change in location from Brynwood Country Club to Mequon Country Club
  • June outing date to August
  • Day of the week from Monday to Friday
  • Golfing started at 9:00 AM
  • 20% decrease in the price per player

We thank our sponsors and those who gave donations in support of the event, including the Riverworks Business Improvement Districts, University of Wisconsin, Ritz Holman LLC, and Doris Chortek.  The proceeds from the outing provide direct support to RDC’s programs and projects, and they allow us to provide some services that are not provided through any other funding streams.

We are already off to an early start planning for next year’s event, and we hope that some of you that weren’t able to join us this year will put us on your golfing schedule for 2011.  We are again anticipating that the Mequon Country Club will host us again next year with increased participation.

2009 Riverworks Biennial Meeting

On April 16, 2009 the Riverworks Center hosted the 2009 Riverworks Biennial Breakfast Meeting at Lad Lake Education & Life Skills Development Center located at 225 West Capitol Drive. This year's theme, "I Am Riverworks," focused on the people and businesses that have made the Riverworks Center the success that it is today. Program reviews and updates were provided by Riverworks staff. John Kersey of Towne Realty was the featured speaker, and business owners and Riverworks stakeholders spoke of their connection to the Riverworks Center as well. Special thanks go out to LAD Lake staff and especially Thomas Casper (also a BID #25 Board Member) and LAD Lake Executive Director Gary Erdmann. The venue they set up for this event was top notch, and most agree this Biennial Meeting was our best yet. We also want to thank the diverse range of Riverworks businesses that donated products for the event: Burke Candy & Ingredients, Wisconsin Wilderness Food Products, Bradley Industries, Inc., Office Depot, The Candle Maker, and Outpost Natural Foods.

Finally, we thank the table sponsors who generously supported the event: Unique Car Care, Shiloh Tabernacle, Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board, Inc., Goodwill Industries of Southeastern WI, Inc., CTC Supplies, Community Development Management Partnerships, RET Lounge, 531 E. Keefe, LLC, Center Point Properties Trust, WHEDA, UW-Milwaukee Center for Urban Initiatives & Research, US Bank, Wal-Mart, and Wenniger Compressor Company.
