Beerline Recreational Trail Project Moving Forward

Over the last two years Riverworks BID II has been working with RDC staff and the City of Milwaukee to coordinate the Beerline Recreational Trail landscaping project. Through our efforts more than 11 tons of garbage and 270 cubic yards of brush and debris were removed. 170 trees and shrubs were planted on the northern section of the Trail, and a historic mural representing the history of the Milwaukee Road railway was produced and installed along the Trail. More recently, the BID hired Marek Landscaping to develop a landscape and native species restoration plan for the Trail, and upon approval by the Department of Transporation a $200,000 landscaping grant was secured. This summer and fall significant work to implement this plan began, and it is scheduled to be finished in spring 2011. This landscaping project together with work done over the past several years are creating a fantastic public space that we believe when finished will benefit both residents and businesses alike.
For more information about this project, please contact Chris Grandt at 414-906-9650 or by email at chrisg@riverworksmke.org or click Beerline Trail Landscape Draft Plan for details of design.
Riverworks Design Guidelines
The Riverworks Center, which is comprised of Business Improvement Districts 25 and 36, is one of the largest centers for business development in Milwaukee. The area is in a constant state of change with new businesses moving in as well as current businesses updating their existing facilities. The Riverworks Design Guidelines were produced to provide property owners with a tool to steer their design process and create a consistent look for the entire Riverworks Center. The BID worked closely with Community Design Solutions (CDS), a student planning and design center of the UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning, to create these guidelines. To review final document click on Riverworks Design Guidelines Booklet.
